Men’s Basketball Downs St. Joseph’s Long Island, 81-76

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team got back in the win column Thursday, defeating St. Joseph's Long Island, 81-76, at Campbell Sports Center. The victory snaps a three-game losing skid, as the Gryphons improve to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

TOP GRYPHON PERFORMERS
Enike Anyia posted his sixth straight game of 20 or more points, dropping a game-high 27. The junior also dished out a season-best six assists.
 
Omar Jamaleddine recorded his 11th double-double of the year, finishing with 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Chris Torres finished with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists, while BJ Sanders contributed 12 points, seven boards and three helpers in the win.
 
RECAP
It was an exciting opening half of basketball, as the two teams combined for six ties and 16 lead changes. Both squads shot the ball efficiently, each hitting well over 50-percent of their attempts.
 
Sarah Lawrence withstood red-hot shooting from the Golden Eagles from beyond the arc (8-12 3FG), holding a 41-40 edge at intermission. Anyia was perfect in the stanza, hitting all six of his field goal attempts.

The two teams continued to trade baskets to begin the second half, until an 8-0 spurt from St. Joseph's opened up a 58-48 lead with 11:16 to play. SLC chipped away at the margin, going on to outscore the Golden Eagles 20-10 over 6:50 to knot the contest, 68-68.

SLC took the lead for good, thanks to four straight points from Jamaleddine to go up, 72-68, with 3:06 remaining in regulation. St. Joseph's cut the margin to one possession on several occasions, getting within a point with 1:05 to play. The Gryphons were clutch from the charity stripe down the stretch, hitting their final six attempts to secure the win.

The victory is the Gryphons' third consecutive win over the Long Island program.
