Men's Basketball Wraps Up Regular Season, Celebrates Senior Day Versus Manhattanville

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. | The Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball team celebrated Luke O'Connor and BJ Sanders on Senior Day, Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Sports Center. The host Gryphons fell by a 78-63 decision to visiting Manhattanville College; the two teams will meet again Tuesday (Feb. 25) at Manhattanville's Kennedy Gym in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 Skyline Conference Men's Basketball Championship. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Both seniors were recognized in a pre-game ceremony by head coach Chris Ehmer, as well as Sarah Lawrence College president, Cristle Collins Judd, for their dedication to the program over the last several years.

Sophomore Omar Jamaleddine led the Gryphons with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while junior Enike Anyia went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line en route to 13 points. Sanders pulled in eight boards in the low post, while sophomore guard Andrew Varoli dished out a team-best three assists off the bench while knocking down two trifectas.

O'Connor opened the scoring on a triple 83 seconds into the game, before the teams exchanged the lead over the opening 10-plus minutes of the account. Jamaleddine pushed SLC in front by a 26-22 count on a jumper with 4:05 to go. However, the Valiants went on an 11-1 run and went into the halftime break up 42-31.

Jamaleddine pulled the hosts to within a 47-41 margin when he threw down a flush off a pass from Liam Barry with 16:46 to go in the contest. But Manhattanville were able to pull away to close out the regular season with a win and set up Tuesday night's quarterfinal rematch.

Both teams shot 45-plus percent from the floor on the afternoon, while Sarah Lawrence converted 11 turnovers by the visitors into 12 points on the day.
