Skyline Conference Championship Central
PURCHASE, N.Y. | Sophomore
Omar Jamaleddine led all players with 32 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday night at Kennedy Gymnasium, as the sixth-seeded Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball team picked up its first-ever victory in Skyline Conference Championship play, knocking off third-seeded host Manhattanville College in quarterfinals action, 75-66.
With the victory, head coach
Chris Ehmer's Gryphons (12-14) advance to Thursday night's semifinals round, where it will play at second-seeded Purchase College in a 7 p.m. tip-off.Â
Jamaleddine shot 13-for-19 from the floor, while classmate
Andrew Varoli came off the bench to collect 18 points -- including a 5-of-7 display beyond the 3-point arc. SLC held the host Valiants (16-10) to a .389 field-goal percentage on the evening, and were able to convert 10 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points in the post.Â
Sarah Lawrence netted the first seven points of the contest, before Manhattanville utilized a 15-3 spurt to push in front 22-15 with 8:51 to go in the first half. The Valiants' Mike Granda then converted a 4-point play with 2:08 remaining, sending the hosts into the locker room at halftime up 32-31.
The first eight points of the second stanza went to the Valiants, who led by as many as 11 points. Ultimately, a 15-1 spurt down the stretch by the Gryphons late in the contest turned an eight-point deficit into a 70-64 lead -- an advantage SLC would not relinquish -- on Jamaleddine's trifecta with 1:41 left.Â
