BRONXVILLE, N.Y. –
Kumi Tamura set a new Sarah Lawrence College women's basketball record for points in game, going off for 39 in the Gryphons' 89-68 victory over St. Joe's Brooklyn on Thursday.
Tamura also broke the record for most three-pointers in a game, sinking eight from deep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gryphons trailed 12-6 near the midway point of the first quarter. A 7-0 run sparked by a Tamura bucket and capped off with a Katzaroff jumper put SLC ahead by one with just over four minutes remaining. Sarah Lawrence entered the second quarter holding a five-point edge.
The Bears would not go away, opening the second quarter on an 11-6 run and evening the game at 25 with just under four minutes until halftime. SJBK closed out the half on a 12-7 spurt, heading into the intermission with a five-point advantage.
SLC caught fire in the second half, shooting 52 percent from the field in the third quarter while holding St. Joe's to 26 percent. The Gryphons began the second half with an 18-4 outburst spanning nearly seven minutes. Sarah Lawrence entered the final quarter with a comfortable 11-point lead.
The Gryphons pulled away in the last 10 minutes, due in large part to a 17-point quarter from Tamura. SLC shot 10-17 from the field the fourth quarter, including four three-pointers, cruising to a 21-point victory.
