Gryphons Complete Sweep of CCNY


NEW YORK - The Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball team combined for 17 service aces, propelling the Gryphons to a 3-0 victory over the CCNY Beavers on Thursday night. SLC took the sets 25-8, 25-7, 25-19. 

THE NUMBERS
  • Georgi Massey led the Gryphons in kills for the second straight contest, putting up 9. 
  • Kaille Ferguson recorded 16 digs, giving her 75 on the season and moving her into the top-10 in the Skyline Conference in the category. She also had eight service aces. 
  • Skyler Kawecki-Muonio stuffed the stat sheet, getting it done on both ends and going for five kills, three blocks, and seven digs. 
  • Mia Rector reached the 150-assists mark for the season, setting up her teammates 23 times. She now ranks 4th in the Skyline in assists. 
  • The Gryphons allowed just three service aces. 
SET 1
The Gryphons came out firing, opening the first set on a 16-3 outburst. Davis Mathis had three kills and a block during the run. Jane Joncha and Mia Rector teamed up twice for points 17 and 18. SLC closed out the set with points from Rector, Joncha, and Kawecki-Muonio. 

SET 2
The Gryphons' domination continued into the second set. Sarah Lawrence jumped out to a 17-5 lead, stringing together runs of four or more unanswered points three different times. Rector assisted on five of the Gryphons' last eight points and tallied a service ace for point 24. An attack error from the Beavers ended the set. 

SET 3
Despite SLC beginning the final set with an 8-2 stretch, this was the closest set of the night.  CCNY rallied back, evening the score at nine. Four straight errors from the Beavers allowed the Gryphons to regain the edge. CCNY never came within four points for the remainder of the set. Ferguson notched the last ace of the night. The match concluded with two Beavers' service errors.

SLC heads to Western Connecticut State for a tri-match on Saturday, September 18. The Gryphons go up against the host at 11:00 a.m. then take on Rhode Island College at 1:00 p.m.
