MBB | Bailey Records Career-High in Battle with Purchase


PURCHASE, N.Y. - Justin Bailey recorded a career-high 26 points for the Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball team in the Gryphons matchup with the Purchase College Panthers on Wednesday night. SLC fell 85-77.

  • Bailey's night came on 71 percent shooting, hitting two shots from deep. He added 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double. 
  • Amos Grey posted a career-high 14 points, shooting 6-10 from the field. The first-year guard also tallied nine rebounds. 
  • Liam Barry cracked double-digits for the ninth consecutive game, going for 15 points and five rebounds. 
  • Lucas Murray had seven points and nine rebounds. 
  • SLC outrebounded Purchase 50-33. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bailey began the night with a three-pointer, receiving the assist from Murray. The Gryphons stretched their early lead to nine at the 12:26 mark, going up 18-9 on a Joshua Capellan field goal. The Panthers cut the deficit with just over five minutes remaining in the first half. SLC held a 30-25 advantage at the 3:59 mark, then Purchase scored five unanswered points in two minutes, evening the contest. The Panthers closed out the first half with a 9-2 spurt, heading into the break ahead by seven. 

The lead swelled up to 13 points across the first 10 minutes of the second half. Purchase never trailed, going up by 17 at the 7:27 mark for the largest lead of the evening. SLC strung together a 13-5 run, making it a single-digit game with one minute and 44 seconds left in regulation. Purchase sealed the win with late free throws.
