WBB | Gryphons Drop Matchup with USMMA


KINGS POINT, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence College women's basketball team went up against The United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday night. SLC fell to USMMA 62-44. 

NUMBERS
  • Kendall Haymore led the Gryphons in scoring, dropping 15 on 54 percent shooting. 
  • Kumi Tamura recorded nine points, sinking three shots from deep.
  • Jordyn Medina went 4-7 from the field, going for eight points. 
  • Camryn Davis had seven points and six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Camryn Davis opened the scoring with a three-pointer, receiving the assist from Demitra Loukopoulos. The Mariners then fired off 10 unanswered points, taking a seven-point lead. Kumi Tamura evened the score at 10 with a shot from deep near the midway point of the quarter. A jumper from Jordyn Medina put the Gryphons ahead 12-11. USMMA closed out the quarter on 4-2 run, entering the second quarter with a one-point edge. 

Two straight USMMA baskets to begin the second put the Gryphons in a five-point hole. Tamura set Medina up for a jumper at the 3:03 mark, narrowing the deficit to three. The Mariners concluded the half with a 9-4 spurt, heading into the intermission up 32-24. 

Tamura added two more three-pointers to the stat sheet, headlining a 6-2 Gryphons' run at the start of the third quarter. SLC trailed 34-30. The USMMA advantage swelled up to 12 before the end of the third quarter thanks to a 12-4 run spanning five minutes and 12 seconds. 

Outscoring the Gryphons 10-4 over the first four minutes and six seconds of the fourth quarter, the Mariners went ahead by 18. The home team maintained its margin for the remainder of the contest.
