BRONXVILLE, N.Y. –
Camryn Davis and
Kumi Tamura combined for 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists, propelling the Sarah Lawrence College women's basketball team to a 61-51 victory against the Old Westbury Panthers on Wednesday night.
NUMBERS
- Davis finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. The senior also had two steals.
- Tamura recorded 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. The first-year had two steals.
- Lexie Wingerter had 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
- Jordyn Medina played all 40 minutes, racking up eight points and eight steals.
- Kendall Haymore went for nine points and six rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Old Westbury jumped out to an early 11-2 run in the first quarter. SLC fought back, bringing the game to within two points. Tamura knocked down two shots from beyond the arc. Davis hit one from deep as well and Haymore finished a layup off an offensive rebound. The Panther ended the quarter on a 7-0 run, entering the second quarter ahead 22-13.
The Gryphons chipped away at the lead throughout the entire second quarter, outscoring the Panthers 15-8. Down by seven near the midway point of the quarter, SLC put together a 9-2 run to end the quarter, heading into the locker room down 30-28.
Lexie Wingerter gave the Gryphons their first lead of the night at the 4:52 mark of the third quarter, finishing a sweet reverse layup after receiving a back door pass from Cam Davis. SLC never looked back, maintaining the edge for the rest of the night. Old Westbury did go away, keeping the margin within six points entering the final quarter.
SLC dropped 19 points in the fourth quarter while holding the Panthers to 12. Jordyn medina had six of her eight points in the final quarter, helping the Gryphons put away Old Westbury for their first win of 2022.
