Coughlin Leads Gryphons in Scoring at Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Despite 17 points from first year Colleen Coughlin, the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons fell to Yeshiva on Thursday by a score of 78-65. This gives the team a 1-2 overall record and a 0-1 record in Skyline play.

Numbers
  • Coughlin totaled 17 points and added four assists
  • Kaila Dorch turned in a strong effort as well, with 12 points, eight rebounds, and two steals
  • Kumi Tamura also compiled 12 points and added three steals
  • Junior Kendall Haymore scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the losing effort

How it Happened
After an evenly-matched first quarter, the Maccabes began to pull away, scoring at least 20 points in each of the next three periods to lead them to victory. A game-high 21 points for Yeshiva's Yuval Nitzan led the offensive attack for the Maccabes, including a three-pointer just before halftime that gave her team a 38-33 lead heading into the break. The second half saw the Maccabes outscore the Gryphons by a total of 40-32, using a series of layups by Nitzan to remain out-of-reach by Sarah Lawerence throughout the entire third quarter. In the final period of play Coughlin attempted to keep the Gryphons in the game, connecting on two three-pointers, but it would not be enough as the Maccabes kept pressing on the offensive attack and keeping themselves in a solid position to close the game. Despite one of Coughlin's three-pointers coming with just under four minutes remaining and bringing the lead down to four, the Maccabes remained in control with a 10-1 run to finish the game, which led to the eventual 13-point differential at the final buzzer.
