Four Gryphons record Double-Doubles in Win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Thanks to a game-high 23 points from Kumi Tamura, the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons defeated the St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn Bears by a score of 72-70 on Saturday afternoon. The Gryphons now find themselves at an even 2-2 in Skyline play this season.

By the Numbers
  • As mentioned, Tamura led the Gryphons and the game with 23 points. The sophomore from Los Angeles, California is now averaging over 16 points per game for the season.
  • Kendall Haymore continued her string of strong performances with another double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds
  • Jordyn Medina and Kaila Dorch both had double-doubles for the Gryphons as well, with 10 points and 11 rebounds apiece

How it Happened
The game started with the Bears jumping out to an early lead, as they started the game on an 8-0 run and remained in control throughout the first period, holding off a last-minute Sarah Lawrence run, thanks to a three-point play by Haymore, to stay in the lead by 11 points. The Gryphons continued their strong play in the second quarter, unable to overtake the Bears but cutting the lead down to just three points. Seven points from Tamura were a large part of Sarah Lawrence's ability to narrow the lead heading into halftime, with the score at 32-29 in favor of the Bears.

The third quarter saw the Bears pull away once again, yet remain unable to distance themselves from the Gryphons, bringing the margain up to seven points before the Gryphons would respond and narrow the gap to just three points once again with 6:36 remaining due to a Haymore layup. The gap would vary from three to seven throughout the remainder of the quarter, with the Gryphons finding themselves down by just three points with 10:00 remaining in the game. As the final quarter started, the Gryphons made quick work of the St. Joseph's lead, tying the game on a Jordyn Medina free-throw with 8:53 remaining in the game. That would prove to be the last lead-change of the day, as the Bears would bring the deficit down to one point with 3:15 to play, but the Gryphons would convert on enough free-throw opportunities in the final minutes to hold on for the victory.
