Dorch and Haymore earn Double-Doubles in win over Old Westbury

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team earned a victory over Old Westbury to kick-off 2023 on Tuesday night. The Gryphons took control of the game early and maintained their lead throughout the game to eventually prove victorious by a score of 66-38. It was the third Skyline victory of the season for the Gryphons, bringing their conference record to 3-2 and their overall record to 5-5.

  • Kendall Haywood led Sarah Lawrence with a game-high 18 points and paired it with 14 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double
  • Kaila Dorch scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass
  • Sarah Lawrence's leading scorer Kumi Tamura had another solid offensive game, scoring 17 points and totaling four steals in the winning effort
  • Colleen Coughlin grabbed nine rebounds and totaled four assists for the Gryphons in their first game of 2023
How it Happened

The Gryphons jumped out to an early lead and refused to look back, maintaining their lead throughout the entirety of the contest. A 14-1 lead just six minutes into the game would pave the way for a 28-point victory. Sarah Lawrence was able to take advantage of 16 steals by scoring 21 points off turnovers and capitalizing on Old Westbury's frequent turnovers. Dorch anchored the defense, not allowing any easy looks for the Panthers and blocking three shots when Old Westbury was finally able to get into the lane. Tamura, Dorch and Demitra Loukopoulos all played a large role in Sarah Lawrence's strong defensive effort, grabbing three steals each en route to forcing 21 total turnovers.

The Gryphons (5-5, Skyline 3-2) will remain in Bronxville, N.Y. to host U.S.M.M.A. on Saturday January 7th at 12:00 p.m. before continuing Skyline play on January 11th as they travel to Mount Saint Mary for a 6:00 p.m. showdown.
