BRONXVILLE, N.Y. –
Lucas Murray recorded a career-high 18 points, lifting the Sarah Lawrence College men's basketball team to a 76-65 victory against Maritime on Monday night. The win moved the Gryphons to 5-6 in conference play and they remain in third place in the North Division with the postseason looming.
NUMBERS
- Murray's 18 points came on 78 percent shooting. The sophomore added eight rebounds.
- Xiyuan Zhang went for 13 points, sinking four shots from deep. He grabbed five rebounds.
- Joshua Capellan posted a career-high points as well, going for 15 on 75 percent shooting, including two shots from three-point range.
- Justin Bailey etched his ninth double-double of the season, recording 12 points and 15 rebounds.
- Liam Barry did a little bit of everything, tallying nine points, six rebounds, and a team-high five assists.
- Amos Grey had seven points and five assists. The first-year guard sank some big free throws late in the game, helping seal the victory for the Gryphons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SlC went down 10-6 early in the first quarter. A 5-0 spurt from Bailey and Barry quickly eradicated the deficit. The Gryphons led 11-10 at the 14:14 mark. An 18-4 run from SLC over the next seven minutes created a comfortable margin for the white and green. The Gryphons went into the break up by 14 points.
Maritime did not go away in the second half. Trailing by 19 at the 10:26 mark, the Privateers ripped off a 24-12 run, narrowing the lead to seven with just under five minutes remaining. SLC thwarted the comeback effort with a clutch three-pointer from Josh Capellan and free throws from Grey and Bailey.
