WVB | Rector Records Career-High 38 Assists, Helping Gryphons Earn First Victory

MADISON, N.J. - The Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball team opened its 2022 campaign with a 3-1 victory against FDU-Florham on Thursday night. Six different Gryphons recorded five or more kills in the complete team win. 

NUMBERS
First Set
Trailing 3-1 early on, the Gryphons fired off a 3-1 run, evening the score at four. FDU-Florham led by six on three different occasions in the first set. SLC was down 18-12 before ripping off a 12-6 run and tying the score at 24. A setting error by the Devils and a kill from Athena Kazos provided the final two points of the set. Sarah Lawrence won 27-25. 

Second Set
The Devils built another big lead in the second set, this time going up 15-10. That did not worry the Gryphons. SLC ended the set on a 15-5 run, gaining kills from Davis Mathis, Raegan Lacombe, Claire Mitchell, and Athena Kazos. Mia Rector recorded a service ace during the run. 

Third Set
This time it was the Gryphons who established an early advantage. SLC led 12-9. FDU fought back, going ahead 16-14. Back-to-back kills from Skyler Kawecki-Muonio and Mia Rector evened the set at 16. The Devils then outscored the Gryphons 9-1, winning the set 25-17. 

Fourth Set
The Gryphons jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The SLC advantage grew to six as the Gryphons held a 12-6 lead. FDU brought the margin to within three points, but SLC did not budge, holding the edge for the remainder of the set and taking the match 25-17.
