How it Happened
Sarah Lawrence jumped out to an early first-quarter lead thanks to six of Haymore's team-high 17 points and their seven forced turnovers limited the Dolphins to just three points in the first quarter while shooting 1-16 from the field. The second quarter saw the Dolphins' offense step-up as they outscored the Gryphons 19-11 and reduced the Sarah Lawrence lead to just four points by the half. Strong defense from the Dolphins, including six steals, would hold the Gryphons to just 11 points in the period and set up the second half to decide the game.
As the third quarter started, it was the Dolphins who would build off their second-quarter performance as they would use seven of Kira Villegas's game-high 26 points to extend their lead to 12 points, leading the Gryphons 50-38 as the third quarter buzzer expired. The fourth quarter saw the Gryphons use six points each from Loukopoulos, Coughlin and Medina to fuel a comeback, but would be unable to reduce the lead to any less than six points and the Dolphins would hold on to win at the final buzzer by a score of 74-65.
