How it Happened
The two teams played a close game throughout the entire 40 minutes, with neither able to extend a lead to double-digits and the two teams finding themselves tied six separate times throughout the contest. While it was the Dolphins who jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, it was the Gryphons who held the lead for the majority of the game, being on top for 66% of the contest despite falling in the end. The Gryphons used size to their advantage, grabbing 46 rebounds compared to 41 for the Dolphins and blocking seven total Mount Saint Vincent shots, six of which came from the aforementioned Dougherty. It would be an 11-4 run over the final 6 and a half minutes that would help the Dolphins complete a comeback. With 1:22 remaining, the Gryphons still hung on to the lead after a Dan Porcic jumper which brought the Dolphins within one point. It would be 40 seconds later that DJ Tucker connected from deep to give the Dolphins their first lead since 8:48 in the first half. With only two team fouls, the Dolphins were able to burn the remainder of their fouls to give which led to the Gryphons holding the ball with nine seconds remaining on the game clock. After two attempts by
Brady Burman, including a blocked layup, the final buzzer sounded and the Dolphins maintained the 58-56 lead they had grabbed with 30 seconds remaining.
