Gryphons Travel to Farmingdale for Tough Skyline Matchup

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team fell to Farmingdale State in three sets on Thursday evening, the Gryphons now sit at 4-2 in conference play while the Rams improved to 5-2.

How it Happened

The Gryphons and Rams went back-and-forth to start the contest, with the hosts finding themselves up 6-5 a few minutes into the first set. The Rams would then embark on an eight-point run to take a 14-5 lead and gain control of the set. Tabitha Hardin Zollo would tally a service ace and Kazos would register a kill, but it would not be enough as Farmingdale held steady and took eight of the final nine points to claim a first-set victory 25-13.

The second set was much more competitive, with both teams remaining neck-and-neck for the majority of the set. After a Farmingdale attack error to tie the set at 12 points apiece, the Rams went on another scoring run, this time taking five straight points and eight of the next nine to assert themselves and command a 21-13 lead. Kills by Kazos, Skyler Kawecki-Muonio and Carolyn Kelly would help the Gryphons storm back into the set, bringing the score to 22-24 and erasing the eight-point lead that the Rams had built. The final point of the set would come via a Farmingdale kill as the hosts took a 2-0 lead on the back of a 25-22 second-set victory.

The third set would be a story of late-set scoring runs. The two teams would find themselves knotted at 12 points apiece once again, with a six-point run by Farmingdale once again giving them a commanding lead late in the set. The Gryphons refused to submit, taking the next four points to reduce the lead to just two points. The two teams would trade points but despite a late-set kill and service ace by Kazos, the Rams would close the set out with a kill to claim a 25-20 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.
