How it Happened

The Gryphons got ahead early in the first set, taking the first three points due to the first of Kazos's 14 kills and a service ace by Rector. The Bulldogs would battle back and the two teams would find themselves tied at seven points apiece. After an error by Brooklyn, Skyler Kawecki Muonio would earn two straight service aces to give the Gryphons a three-point lead. The teams would trade a couple points before Sarah Lawrence went on a set-winning run. Two more kills by Kazos and two of Hardin Zollo's seven service aces would highlight a seven-point run that would bring the score to 19-9 and minutes later the Gryphons would take a 25-12 set victory.

The second set would start off with two straight service aces by Hardin Zollo, but the Bulldogs would rally to claim a 6-3 lead moments later thanks to a kill by Aleah Rafat. After going back-and-forth, a Georgi Massey kill would tie the set at 10 points apiece and a subsequent kill by Carolyn Kelly would give the Gryphons a lead. After an SLC service error, the Bulldogs earned a service ace of their own to regain the lead. The two teams traded points, with Brooklyn maintaining a 13-12 lead. The Gryphons would then take the next 10 points, including kills by Kazos and Carolyn Kelly, a service ace by Kazos and five Brooklyn attack errors. After a service error and a subsequent kill by Massey, the Gryphons found themselves up 23-14 and on the verge of taking the second set. The Bulldogs would delay the inevitable, taking the next five points before a kill by Rector gave the Gryphons set point and a setting error by Brooklyn gave Sarah Lawrence a 25-19 set victory and a two-set lead in the match.

The Bulldogs benefitted from some early SLC errors in the third set, getting ahead 8-4 despite another kill by Massey. Sarah Lawrence would take the next three points and seven of the next eight to take an 11-9 lead. The Bulldogs would slowly work back into the set, eventually tying the set at 16 thanks to another kill by Rafat. Four-straight SLC points on two Hardin Zollo service aces and two Kazos kills would give the Gryphons a 20-16 lead and take any momentum that the Bulldogs had built up. Two more kills by Kazos a few rallies later would give Sarah Lawrence match point and the last of Massey's eight kills secured the victory for the Gryphons.
