Gryphons Hold Lightning to 26 total Points; Earn 3-0 Non-Conference Victory

BRONX, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team earned a dominant non-conference victory over Lehman College on Saturday, taking a three-sets-to-none victory by scores of 25-13, 25-7, 25-6.

Top Performers
  • Athena Kazos had another impressive all-around effort, totaling 14 kills, five service aces and seven digs
  • Ava Castro - Devarona led all players with 18 assists, six more than Lehman had as a team
  • Raegan Lacombe played well in the libero role, with 13 digs and a service ace

How it Happened

The Gryphons and Lightning remained neck-and-neck in the first set, finding themselves tied at seven points apiece before the Gryphons jumped ahead to a 12-9 lead on the back of a Georgi Massey kill. From that point on, the Gryphons would outscore their opponents 13-4 and Kazos and Skyler Kawecki-Muonio would combine for five kills to propel the visitors to a first-set victory 25-13.

The second set started 6-4 in favor of SLC but that would be as close as it would get, as the Lightning would only score three more times in the set as the Gryphons took the set 25-7 thanks to kills by four different players and four service aces by Kazos.

After a 3-3 tie to start the set, the Gryphons went on another run, started by two kills from Kazos and capped by a Lehman kill to bring the score to 13-4. After taking two of the next four points, the hosts reduced the lead to 15-6, but the Gryphons would take the next ten points to claim the victory. Another Massey kill sealed the match as the Gryphons took the set 25-6 and secured a 3-0 match victory.
