Gryphons Defeat Panthers 3-0 for Sixth Skyline Victory of the Season

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team tied it's program-record for Skyline wins with their sixth conference victory of the season, a 3-0 triumph over Purchase.

Top Performers
  • Georgi Massey led the offensive attack for the Gryphons, tallying nine kills
  • Mia Rector paced Sarah Lawrence in assists once again, with a game-high 25
  • Kaille Ferguson led the way defensively with 12 digs

How it Happened

The Gryphons jumped ahead 8-3 on the back of two Massey service aces and used an Athena Kazos kill along with a kill by Skyler Kawecki-Muonio to jump ahead 11-4 a few rallies later. After a couple Purchase kills, the Gryphons would surge forward with a seven-point scoring run, fueled by two service aces and a kill by Rector. With a 19-7 lead, the Gryphons would continue to remain in control, eventually taking the set 25-10 on another Kawecki-Muonio kill.

The second set was a much different story, as the Panthers stormed out to a 10-3 lead. The Gryphons would battle back to reduce the gap to six points before taking seven straight points and taking a 14-13 lead. After a Purchase kill to tie the set, the Gryphons would keep the Panthers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the set, taking the last 11 points in a string of serves by Ferguson that included kills by Massey, Kazos and Kawecki-Muonio.

The third set was dominated start-to-finish by the Gryphons, claiming the first 15 points as Massey and Carolyn Kelly combined for seven kills in the opening rallies. Purchase would finally get on the board, but it would not be nearly enough as a Mia Rector service ace would seal a 25-6 set victory and a 3-0 match victory for the Gryphons
