Gryphons Sweep Quad-Meet for Second Consecutive Week

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's swim team improved to 6-0 on the year, sweeping a quad-meet with Purchase, St. Joseph's Long Island and the Fashion Institute of Technology. The Gryphons have now defeated all six opponents so far this season, including two Skyline counterparts in today's meet.

2022-23 Skyline rookie of the year Keilani Talma earned the first individual victory of the day for SLC, completing the 200 yard freestyle in 2:09.25, four seconds before teammate Genevieve Chiappetta who earned second place in the same event. First year Jocelyn Engel finished in sixth place in the event as well. 

Ella Hernan continued her impressive start to the season with a second-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle and teammate Josie Laur was less than a half second behind her in fourth place. Juliet DeLap rounded out the competitors in the event with a sixth-place finish and a time of 33.68.

A pair of first-years, Hannah Drum and Linda Kelly finished in second and fifth place respectively in the 200 yard IM, adding two more top-five finishes for the Gryphons.

Talma earned her second event win in the 100 yard butterfly two events later, finishing in  1:05.31, over two seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. DeLap finished fifth in the same race with a time of 1:43.27.

The next event was the 100 yard freestyle, with Drum and Laur taking home first and second place with times of 1:01.13 and 1:03.57. 

Hernan one-upped herself with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke by over two seconds, an event where the Gryphons had three top-5 finishers. Sonjia Armitage and the aforementioned Kelly joined Hernan with fourth- and fifth-place finishes respectively.

Chiappetta returned to the pool to earn a second-place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing 14 seconds quicker than the third-place competitor. Engel took home fifth place in the same event, finishing in seven-and-a-half minutes.

Drum and Armitage earned fourth and fifth in the 100 yard backstroke and the SLC relay team of Talma, Hernan, Laur and Chiappetta rounded out the meet with a dominating victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team completed the event in 1:50.39, which was over nine seconds faster than the second-place squad from St. Joseph's.

The Gryphons will return to the Campbell Sports Center Pool next Saturday as they host York College and Mount Saint Mary College for a tri-meet.
