Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trio of Gryphons end in Double-Digits against Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team traveled to Ramapo College to take on the Roadrunners in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night. The Gryphons fell to the now 2-1 Roadrunners by a score of 84-68.

Top Performers
  • Braden Burman paced the team in scoring with 16 points, shooting 3-of-4 from deep and converting on 5-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line
  • Kyle Jefferson scored 11 points for SLC while tallying two steals
  • Derek Hickman was the third 10-point scorer for the Gryphons, knocking down 5-of-6 free throws and pulling down four rebounds

How it Happened

The two teams remained close early on, with an early Ramapo lead being erased with a Noah Elovitz-Fields three-pointer that gave SLC an 8-7 lead. The Roadrunners would take back the lead but the Gryphons would rally back once again just over halfway through the first 20 minutes of play. A pair of Derek Hickman free throws would give the Gryphons a brief 20-19 lead but an immediate answer from deep off the hands of Ramapo's Tyrell Murchison would give the lead back to the Roadrunners. The Gryphons would regain the lead moments later and a connection from deep by Burman would give them a five-point advantage, bringing the score to 35-30 with three minutes to play. The hosts would answer that with a score of their own, the first two points of a half-ending 13-point run that would take the teams into the intermission with Ramapo ahead 43-35.

The Roadrunners were able to hold their lead through the entirety of the second half, but the Gryphons remained within striking distance. An early-half Andrew Kim three brought the lead back down to seven, but five more Ramapo points just a few possessions later would bring the lead back to double-digits. The Roadrunners would build up a 14-point margin, but back-to-back threes from Hickman and Burman brought the score to 64-56 and forced a Ramapo timeout. Despite the rally by the Gryphons, the hosts would maintain their lead and fend off any potential game-swinging runs by the visitors. As the final buzzer sounded, the Roadrunners earned their second victory of the season, defeating the Gryphons 84-68.
