Trio of Gryphons Combine for 48 Points as SLC defeats Pratt

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team defeated the Pratt Cannoneers by a score of 84-60 on Thursday night at the Campbell Sports Center. The Gryphons relied offensively on a balanced attack led by a trio of scorers who all surpassed the 15-point threshold in the contest.

Top Performers
  • Lucas Murray led the SLC offense once again, this time with another double-double including 17 points and 10 rebounds
  • Derek Hickman scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Gryphons
  • Kyle Jefferson scored an efficient 15 points on 83.3% shooting
  • Andrew Kim flirted with a triple-double, pulling down 11 rebounds, scoring seven points and tallying a game-high seven assists

How it Happened

The first half of play was headlined by some exceptional ball movement by the Gryphons, getting ahead to an early 20-7 lead with assists on six of their seven made field goals. Eight more points from Jefferson from that point on led the SLC offense into the break and three made free-throws by Kim with just under two minutes remaining gave the Gryphons 39 points and after three Mekhi Davis points in favor of the Cannoneers, the Gryphons headed into the halftime intermission with a 17-point lead.

The second half saw Hickman get to the line often, scoring four points in three trips in the first five minutes of the half. Back-to-back Chris Dougherty jumpers would give the Gryphons a 21-point advantage and the Gryphons would shoot well from the line for the remainder of the game to seal the victory. Eamon Kelly, Hickman, Jefferson, Murray, Dean Furlong, Dougherty, Noah Elovitz-Fields and Peter Fathi all scored from the stripe in the final 10 minutes of play to keep the Gryphons ahead. A last-minute Tolga Yagiz layup via an assist by Luca Mesiti and a conversion at the free-throw line by Fathi would give the Gryphons an 84-60 advantage and while Pratt would convert from deep with 12 seconds left, the Gryphons would take a 21-point home non-conference victory.
