How it Happened

The Gryphons got ahead 12-6 early thanks to two triples by Coughlin and with five minutes remaining they held their six-point advantage. CMSV would storm back, closing the quarter on a 10-4 run to tie the game before a Kendall Haymore layup in the final minute gave the Gryphons a two-point advantage heading into the intermission. The two teams would fight for the lead throughout the first five minutes as neither was able to make it a two-possession game until a Kayla Hanley layup gave the Dolphins a five-point advantage. The visitors would extend their lead to seven with two minutes remaining in the half but scores by Dorch and Haymore on back-to-back possessions reduced the margin to three points by the end of the first half.

The Gryphons wasted no time getting their offense going in the second half, taking the lead two minutes into the period on an Anderson-Strawder layup. The two teams would find themselves tied at both the eight- and six-minute marks before the Dolphins used a 14-5 run to take a commanding 55-46 lead with just over two minutes remaining. The nine-point lead would get up to ten points and as low as eight but as the buzzer rang after the third quarter, the Dolphins found themselves up by nine once again. The visitors remained in control throughout the fourth quarter, reducing the lead to seven on a pair of Haymore free-throws, but not able to reduce the lead further. As the final buzzer rang, the Dolphins emerged with a double-digit victory that did not do the competitiveness of the game justice.
