37 Combined Points from Kelly and DiFabio lead Gryphons to Victory over Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. - First Years Eamon Kelly and Justin DiFabio scored 19 and 18 points respectively as the Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team defeated the Purchase Panthers by a score of 70-63 on Tuesday night. The duo paces Sarah Lawrence in scoring on the season as well, with DiFabio averaging 12.1 points and Kelly right behind with 11.9 points per game.

By the Numbers
  • Kelly pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists in addition to his 18 points
  • DiFabio grabbed three rebounds and connected six times from deep
  • Amos Grey scored eight points, tallied six rebounds and found teammates six times for assists

How it Happened

Kelly scored nine first half points to catapult the Gryphons into the lead and carry a 14-point lead into the halftime break. Key three pointers from the first year from New Orleans, along with connections from DiFabio, Chris Torres and Brady Burman throughout the first half allowed the Gryphons to stave off any runs that the Panthers threatened with and kept Sarah Lawrence ahead with a commanding lead for the final few minutes of the half. The Panthers were held scoreless over the final five minutes of the first half while the Gryphons scored 10 points to build their lead up to 14 by the time the clock hit zero on the first half of play.

DiFabio hit his stride in the second half, connecting multiple times from deep to help bring the Sarah Lawrence lead to 22 with 12:37 to play. The first year from Ridgefield, Conn. would continue to strike, this time in a much more dire situation as his basket would shut down a long Purchase scoring run to bring the Gryphons' lead back to double-digits with just under four minutes remaining. After the Panthers reduced the lead to six, Kelly would take his turn as the momentum-stopper, draining a shot from deep to bring the lead back to nine points with 1:19 remaining and secure the victory for Sarah Lawrence.
