BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - Senior Jordyn Medina led all Sarah Lawrence players with a career-high 17 points as the Gryphons fell to the Yeshiva University Maccabees by a score of 82-65 on Saturday night at the Campbell Sports Center. The Gryphons will now have a quick turnaround as they host St. Joseph's College of Long Island on Monday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m.

  • First Year Colleen Coughlin put up a double-double for the Gryphons with 11 points and a career-high 10 assists
  • Kendall Haymore continued her solid play, scoring 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds despite being on the court for only 16 minutes

How it Happened

The Gryphons and Maccabees played an extremely close first half, finishing the first quarter with the Gryphons ahead by a score of 23-22 after a jumper by Medina with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter to put Sarah Lawrence ahead. The second quarter was very similar, as the two teams played each other close once again, this time with the Gryphons narrowly leading the Maccabees throughout the quarter and going into halftime up by a score of 43-40 thanks to a last-second layup from Haymore that went through the net as time expired.

The third quarter was when the Maccabees started their comeback, using a 12-3 run over the first four minutes of the period to jump out to a 52-46 lead that would stay in their favor for the remainder of the contest. The Gryphons would reduce Yeshiva's lead to two points multiple points throughout the third quarter, including at the end of the period as a Kaila Dorch free-throw with under a minute remaining would reduce the Maccabees' lead to 59-57. The fourth quarter saw Yeshiva pull away, as they held the Gryphons scoreless for over seven minutes, until there was just 2:45 remaining in the game when Kumi Tamura connected from deep, but even after the basket it would be the Maccabees who remained in control as they held a 74-60 lead. The Maccabees would hold on to the lead over the final few minutes and as time expired the score would be Yeshiva 82 and Sarah Lawrence 65.
