Haymore and Coughlin Lead Gryphons over Golden Eagles

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team defeated the St. Joseph's College Long Island Golden Eagles on Monday night by a score of 67-62. The Gryphons have now won five Skyline games this season and the victory over the Golden Eagles keeps their playoff hopes alive heading into the final three games of the regular season.

By the Numbers
  • Colleen Coughlin maintained her impressive play as she totaled 15 points, eight assists and five rebounds
  • Kendall Haymore added another double-double to her resume this season, this time with 15 points and 13 rebounds
  • First year Kaila Dorch nearly joined Haymore, narrowly missing a double-double with nine points and nine assists

How it Happened

The Gryphons jumped out to an early lead in a low-scoring first quarter, using two last-minute buckets from Lauryn Dunn and Demitra Loukopoulos to carry a lead into the second period. Sarah Lawrence really pulled away in the second quarter, as they relied on six points each from Haymore and Kumi Tamura to extend their lead to 12 points by halftime.

The third quarter was similar to the second, as the Gryphons extended their lead, this time with Dorch leading the way. The first year from the Bronx scored all nine of her points in the third quarter to help the Gryphons go up by a comfortable 17 points with ten minutes to play. At a first glance, the final quarter was a massive comeback for the Golden Eagles, outscoring the Gryphons by 12 points to bring the game within reach. Sarah Lawrence remained in control for the majority of the final period, but it would be on the heels of two technical fouls with under a minute left, giving St. Joseph's four free throws and the ball, that would cause the Gryphons to lose their double-digit lead. Clutch free-throws by Coughlin closed the game out as the Gryphons held on for the ever-important Skyline victory.
