Women's Volleyball Continues Hot Streak with Road Win over Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence College swept Purchase College 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-19) in a closely contested match in the Purchast College Gym. The win marked the third straight win for the Gryphons as the team managed to capitalize on key moments in each set to secure the victory.

Notable Performers
  • Athena Kazos led all players with 13 kills, nearly missing a double-double with nine digs. Kazos also added four aces
  • Nikolet Vataj continued her strong play as of late, turning in a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, plus five aces to lead all players
  • Valerie Hertig totaled 28 assists in the winning effort while adding in three aces for SLC
  • Kaille Ferguson led all players with 17 digs, adding in a pair of aces as well as three assists

How it Happened

In the first set, Sarah Lawrence took control early, utilizing strong serving to keep Purchase on their heels. The Gryphons built a lead and held it consistently, managing to fend off a late surge by the Panthers. A combination of sharp attacks and solid defense allowed Sarah Lawrence to take the first set 25-19. The second set was a much tighter affair, with both teams trading points throughout. Purchase came out more aggressive, and the set saw several lead changes as neither team could pull ahead by more than a few points. However, Sarah Lawrence maintained their composure in the crucial moments, closing out the set 25-23 with timely kills and a final block that sealed their 2-0 lead. In the third and final set, the Gryphons showed their resilience, fighting off another determined effort from Purchase. The Panthers kept the score close early on, but Sarah Lawrence's balanced attack and consistency at the net proved too much.
