PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to St. Joseph's Long Island in a Skyline Conference matchup on October 31, 2024, at the Danzi Athletic Center. The Gryphons showed resilience and battled to win the third set, but ultimately couldn't overcome the Golden Eagles, who proved vitorious with set scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-23, and 19-25.
How It Happened
The first set saw a strong start from Sarah Lawrence, with
Athena Kazos and
Nikolet Vataj contributing critical kills. However, St. Joseph's capitalized on key errors late in the set, taking it 25-20. In the second set, the Gryphons came back determined and managed to keep the score close. Kazos and Vataj once again combined for multiple points, with kills from
Eve Iceton and
Carolyn Kelly assisting. Despite the effort, St. Joseph's held on, edging Sarah Lawrence 25-22 and taking a commanding two-sets-to-none lead. The Gryphons bounced back in the third set with a well-rounded offensive and defensive effort, winning 25-23 to stay in the match. 13 of Massey's 38 assists came in the third set to lead the offensive charge while timely kills by
Milly Guemple,
Carolyn Kelly and
Jenna Lehnhart helped the Gryphons extend the match to a fourth set. The fourth set saw the Golden Eagles pull away in the latter stages. Although Sarah Lawrence made a late push with kills from Kelly and Guemple, the Golden Eagles clinched the set 25-19, sealing the match victory.

The Gryphons (13-9, Skyline 8-1) will return to action on Tuesday, November 5th when they host the Rams of Farmingdale State to the Campbell Sports Center for a 7:00 p.m. home matchup in Bronxville. The Gryphons will then celebrate senior day on Thursday, November 7th against York College at 7:00 p.m.
