How it Happened
The Bloodhounds got ahead early, but seven points by Dorch and Hudson in the final minute-and-change of the first quarter gave SLC a one-point advantage after the first ten minutes. The two teams remained close throughout the second quarter, with John Jay taking a brief lead before an
Audrey Mattison three-pointer in the last minute of play tied the game heading into the half. The third quarter saw the Gryphons build up a lead, with Dorch, Hudson, Pedraza,
Colleen Coughlin and
Ariana Spanopoulos all contributing offensively. A pair of free throws brought the visitors within three points with just seconds on the clock, as the teams entered the final 10 minutes of play. After a jumper to open the quarter's scoring, a triple from Coughlin held off the visitors for a minute, but back-to-back scores by John Jay tied the contest at 49. A triple from Spanopoulos gave SLC the lead once again, but the Bloodhounds would hold the Gryphons to just five points through the remainder of the game while erupting for their own highest scoring quarter of the contest.
