Men's Basketball Forces 28 Turnovers in Dominant win over Cannoneers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team defeated the Pratt Institute Cannoneers by a score of 71-54 on Tuesday evening after both teams got off to a slow start offensively. The Gryphons forced 28 turnovers and scored 19 fastbreak points to take down the hosting Cannoneers for their second win of the young season.

Notable Performers
  • Brady Burman led the Gryphons with 15 points, shooting 70% from the field and adding in a pair of steals
  • Aiden Morel struck three times from deep while totaling 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals
  • Gavin Wright scored and racked up three steals in limited minutes for the Gryphons

How it Happened

Both teams struggled offensively early on, with the score sitting at 6-4 in favor of the Gryphons after nearly 10 minutes of game time. Eamon Kelly would get the SLC offense going by working as a facilitating, assisting three different teammates on the next three SLC scores to help the Gryphons grow their lead to five points, highlighted by a Chris Dougherty dunk. After trading points, an Andrew Kim three-pointer would extend the lead to eight with just over seven to play. The Cannoneers would attempt to close the gap, but a three-point play by Dean Furlong, a fastbreak triple by Morel and a last-minute jumper by Wright would keep the Gryphons ahead, with a double-digit lead at the half.

In the second half, the Gryphons would maintain their lead, getting contributions from a variety of players, including Anthony Aruffo, who scored eight straight SLC points to bring the lead to 27 points with under ten minutes remaining. Last-minute scores by the Cannoneers lowered the gap, but the team held on for a 17-point victory.

Up Next

The Gryphons (2-3) will return to action next Tuesday, November 26th, as they host Lehman for an 8:00 p.m. non-conference matchup to wrap up a Sarah Lawrence basketball doubleheader before Thanksgiving break.
