Men's Basketball Heads into Thanksgiving Break with Double-Digit Victory over Lehman

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team dominated the offensive glass to take down the Lehman College Lightning by a score of 65-55 on Tuesday night. The Gryphons now sit at .500 on the season after the non-conference win.

Notable Performers
  • Eamon Kelly led all scorers with 20 points, adding in seven rebounds and three steals
  • Andrew Kim scored 12 points for the Gryphons while pulling down six rebounds
  • Dean Furlong played well defensively with two steals while adding in nine points and three assists

How it Happened

The Lightning scored the first four points of the contest before back-to-back triples by Braden Burman and Kim gave the Gryphons the lead. The Lightning would score nine points in a row before Anthony Aruffo stopped the run with a jumper. A jumper by Kelly would then tie the contest less than two minutes later before a three-point play by Lehman gave the lead back to the visitors. After a few possessions for each team, a triple by Kelly off a pass from Kim gave the Gryphons a lead. An immediate response from the Lightning would reclaim said lead but Furlong would connect from deep on the ensuing SLC possession to bring the hosts back on top. After a pair of made free throws by Furlong and a three-point play by Lemar Fulmore Jr., SLC held an eight-point advantage with six minutes remaining. A small Lehman run would be halted by another Kelly triple, keeping the lead at eight with three minutes and 41 seconds remaining. After a three-point play by Lehman's Kai Parris, a long-range connection by Burman returned the lead to eight and a lone free throw by Kelly with seconds remaining gave SLC a nine-point lead heading into the intermission.

The second half would start with Lehman mounting a small run and SLC once again shutting them down, maintaining a two-possession advantage at all times. The lead would be brought down to six points but back-to-back technical fouls by Lehman, and the four straight made free throws by Kelly that followed, would return the SLC lead to double-digits. The Gryphons would maintain a strong lead, with a Chris Doughery putback, more made free throws by Furlong and Kelly's third triple of the night keeping them ahead. The team would hold on throughout the waning minutes as they claimed an important non-conference win leading into the school's Thanksgiving break.
