How it Happened
Sarah Lawrence started hot, taking an early six-point lead in the first quarter, thanks to back-to-back triples by Hudson and
Colleen Coughlin. Mattison's sharpshooting energized the Gryphons, highlighted by her six three-pointers which kept the Gryphons in the game for the majority of the first half, keeping close within the first five-and-a-half minutes of the quarter. A late run by the Golden Eagles gave them a double-digit lead by the end of the period and despite strong second-quarter play by SLC to close the gap to a single score twice, the Golden Eagles held an eight-point advantage heading into the halftime intermission.
Despite their strong second-quarter effort, the Gryphons couldn't maintain momentum heading into the second half, as St. Joseph's clamped down defensively and dominated the boards. The visitor's depth and offensive consistency proved too much in the second half. SJLI's Charlotte Twohig led the charge with a double-double performance, including 22 points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles shot an impressive 48.1% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc, putting the game out of reach by the fourth quarter.
