Kim hits Game-Winner; Gryphons Escape Newburgh with Victory

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Sarah Lawrence first-year guard Andrew Kim connected on a step-back jumper with under 10 seconds remaining to give the Gryphons a 75-74 victory over Mount Saint Mary on Saturday. The Gryphons have now swept the season series against the Knights after Kim's heroic performance.

Top Performers
  • Sophomore Eamon Kelly scored a game-high 28 points, connecting five times from deep
  • Senior Lucas Murray scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds
  • Braden Burman scored 15 points for SLC while dishing out four assists

How it Happened

The Gryphons and Knights had nearly identical statlines in the first half, with each team knocking down nine shots from the field and remaining within three points at the half. The Knights used frequent trips to the free-throw line to take that three-point cushion into the intermission, connecting on 11 of their 15 attempts while the Gryphons managed just seven attempts, knocking down five. The visitors used a strong three-point shooting attack to keep the game close, knocking down three shots from long-range, two of which came off the hands of Kelly.

The second half was an intense battle, with five lead changes in the first five minutes of the period. After a 6-0 run by Kelly, Dougherty and the Gryphons, it would be the visitors who would hold the lead for the majority of the half. After a Burman layup with 3:24 remaining that pushed the SLC lead to nine points, the Knights embarked on a 10-0 run, capped off by two triples from Connor Cyran to reclaim a lead with just 1:15 remaining. After a MSMC foul, Burman headed to the line for SLC and knocked down both shots to give the Gryphons another lead, this time with under a minute to play. MSMC's Ryan Graham would step up for the Knights, converting on a layup with 32 seconds remaining and giving the home team a one-point lead and putting the pressure on the Gryphons to convert on the ensuing possession. With time running out and the clock reaching single digits, first-year guard Andrew Kim stepped back on the right wing and hit the bottom of the net to give the Gryphons a lead and give the Knights just seven seconds for a rebuttal. It would once again be Graham to take the shot for MSMC, but this time he would not convert, giving the Gryphons a one-point road Skyline victory.
