How it Happened

The Gryphons got ahead early after a three-point play by Anderson-Strawder and a layup by Haymore and they maintained their lead throughout the end of the period, as neither team got going offensively and a Christina Reilly triple with 1:05 remaining gave the visitors a one-point lead into the first intermission. The second quarter was a similar story, with the Gryphons narrowly holding their lead as six points by Coughlin helped withstand a pair of triples by the Dolphins and the Gryphons would once again take a one-point lead into a break, this time by a score of 26-25.

The third quarter was a low scoring affair for both teams, with the Gryphons narrowly edging out the Dolphins in scoring by an 8-6 margin in the period. The Dolphins jumped ahead first in the second half, with Kira Villegas and Amber Been scoring the first two baskets and giving the Dolphins their first lead since the first minutes of the contest. SLC answered back, with Anderson-Strawder scoring twice and Haymore connecting on a pair of free throws before a layup by Coughlin with 1:16 remaining gave the visitors a three-point margin heading into the final quarter of play. UMSV once again got off to a hot start in the quarter, scoring the first eight points of the period to take a five-point lead in just under one-and-a-half minutes of play. Anderson-Strawder scored seven points in the remainder of the period and Coughlin connected twice from the stripe, but an Amber Been three-pointer with 1:46 remaining extended the Dolphin lead to five points and two free-throws by the Graduate Student secured the victory by a score of 52-47.
