Anderson-Strawder and Haymore Combine for 35 Points against Yeshiva

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team fell to Yeshiva University on Thursday night by a score of 42-38. The Gryphons got 35 points from Kendall Haymore and Khailand Anderson-Strawder in the contest.

Top Performers
  • Haymore led the team with 21 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and four steals
  • Anderson-Strawder added 14 points and three offensive rebounds
  • Colleen Coughlin scored the remaining three points while pulling down 12 rebounds and nabbing two steals

How it Happened

The game started with a Maccabee triple before Anderson-Strawder scored five straight points to put the Gryphons ahead. The teams battled back-and-forth but a string of four free-throws by the Maccabees and a Sara Yolkut layup put the Maccabees up 11-7 with a minute-and-a-half remaining in the quarter. Another score by Anderson-Strawder with 59 seconds remaining reduced the lead to two points and after 10 minutes of play, the hosts led the contest 11-9. The Maccabees started the scoring in the next period as well, growing their lead to 14-10 before a Haymore layup reduced the lead again. The Macs scored again but Coughlin answered a minute later with a triple and two Haymore free throws followed to give the Gryphons a 17-16 lead. The Maccabees responded with three baskets in the final two minutes of the half to claim a four-point halftime lead on the back of eight first-half point by Shai Rahamim.

The Gryphons opened the second half with an eight-point scoring run, with Haymore and Anderson-Strawder scoring twice each to give the visitors a four-point advantage. Rahamim connected from deep to reduce the lead to one point. Haymore scored once again under the basket and YU's Yolkut answered to keep the lead at one, where it would stand at the end of the third period. The teams would trade scores to open the final quarter before a three-for-three trip to the free-throw line by YU's Yuval Nitzan gave the Maccabees the lead once again. Rahamim scored again to extend the lead to three, but Haymore answered with a score of her own to close the gap with just under three minutes remaining. After trading layups and a made free throw by YU, the lead sat at 37-35 in favor of the Maccabees with just over a minute remaining. With 55 seconds remaining, Haymore scored in the paint once again, tying the game with under a minute left to play. Yolkut would score again and a pair of free throws by the Maccabees extended the lead to four points, too much for a late-game Anderson-Strawder free throw to overcome.
