NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Sarah Lawrence College Swimming teams had a strong showing at the 2024 Metropolitan Conference Championship meet last weekend, bringing an unprecedented level of engagement throughout the meet between individual events and relays.
Among all 11 participants, the Gryphons saw 10 swimmers score toward each team's point total through individual events. Out of 33 individual swims, 24 of those achieved a top 24 finish in prelims sessions and made it to that day's Finals session. The Gryphons Women's Swimming team saw 8 Top-8 Individual finishes throughout the weekend, and out of 5 relays, 4 women's relays finished among the top 8, including 4
th place overall in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

6 Gryphons swimmers made Finals in all three of their swims, while another 2 made finals in two out of three events.

On the Women's side, Senior Genevieve Chiappetta and Sophomore Keilani Talma made the top 8 in all three of their swims, with Talma finishing third place in all three of her swims (100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, and 200 Butterfly) and Chiappetta finishing in 7
th, 5
th, and 4
th place in the 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, and 200 Backstroke. Sophomore Ella Hernan finished among top 8 in the 100 and 200 backstroke events, and 13
th overall in the 50 freestyle. Junior Josie Laur made finals in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 100 Backstroke. First-Year Hannah Drum had an impressive showing by making finals in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly; where she finished in 11
th place overall. First-year swimmers Sonjia Armitage and Linda Kelly each made finals in two events, while fellow first-year swimmer Jocelyn Engel and Sophomore swimmer Allie Abemayor made finals in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, respectively. The Women's team finished with a total score of 509 points, good for 9
th place overall. Senior Genevieve Chiappetta was also awarded the Dick Krempecki Outstanding Senior Award; an award given via a voting process from all coaches based on nominations that highlight swimming student-athletes who have made an impact via leadership, performance, and service throughout their career.

On the Men's side, sophomore
Patrick Rau made finals in all three events, placing as high as 9
th overall in the 1650 Freestyle. The Men's team finished with a score of 44 points, earning a 10
th place overall finish.

Coming off of a strong showing at Skyline Conference Championship in January, the 2023-2024 season closes on a very positive note with the conclusion of the Metropolitan Conference Championship meet, and the Gryphons Men's and Women's Swimming teams look ahead to a productive offseason, and an even better season starting this fall.
