Dominant Paint Performance Carries Women's Basketball Past Panthers

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team dominated the Old Westbury Panthers in the paint on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 64-37 victory at the Campbell Sports Center.

Notable Performers
  • Kaila Dorch led all Gryphons with 20 points, adding in 15 rebounds
  • Kendall Stephens set a career-high with 17 points, adding in 10 rebounds for her first collegiate double-double
  • Audrey Mattison stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals

How it Happened

The Gryphons got ahead early, with a junior-to-junior connection as Dorch took an Ariana Spanopoulos pass to open the scoring and Mattison stepped into an Emrie Pedraza pass to strike from deep. The Panthers stayed close throughout the first quarter, even taking a 10-7 lead, but the Gryphons responded with a 10-2 run that featured five inside scores by Dorch, Stephens and Spanopoulos to send SLC into the first break with a five-point advantage. The second quarter saw five different Gryphons score, with Mattison, Dorch, Stephens and Spanopoulos all repeating their first-quarter scores and Josie Kent scoring a putback to keep the SLC ahead by double-digits heading into the halftime break.

The third quarter once again saw a balanced offensive attack from the Gryphons, with Dorch's eight points leading the charge while Spanopoulos hit from deep to keep the team ahead by 20 points. Stephens scored eight of her 17 total points in the fourth quarter, while Kent took a Madeline Moor assist to convert on her second score of the game. Spanopoulos found Mattison twice more for layups as the Gryphons continued to hold a comfortable lead, holding the Panthers to 11 points to clinch their fourth conference victory.
