How it Happened
In the opening set, the Gryphons fought through an early back-and-forth stretch before the Bears capitalized on a late service run to take the frame 25-19. From there, Sarah Lawrence flipped the momentum entirely. The second set saw the Gryphons take control early behind a 7-0 run capped off by an Eve Iceton kill. The Gryphons held off a late push by the hosts, using a Nikolet Vataj kill to seal a 25-23 victory and tie the match at one set apiece.
The third set turned into a marathon thriller, with both sides trading blows deep into extra points. Sarah Lawrence's resilience shone through late as kills by Iceton and Richard gave the team a 24-24 draw, keeping the set going. Kazos and Vataj led the offense in the extra time, before the latter gave the team set point at 35-34. An SJBK error gave the Gryphons a 36-34 win and gave the visitors a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth, SLC maintained its momentum, using a trio of aces by Iceton as well as a pair of Richard/Costa blocks to secure the match. Fittingly, a Richard kill thanks to a set from Costa would seal the match and send the Gryphons back to Bronxville with another Skyline victory.
