Balanced Offensive Attack Propels Women's Basketball over Bears before Winter Break

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team wrapped up the fall semester with another dominant Skyline victory, taking down the Bears of St. Joseph's Brooklyn by a score of 87-68.

Notable Performers How it Happened

Sarah Lawrence did not skip a beat early on, using a strong first quarter to build up a steady lead over the Bears. Coughlin started the game with a made triple before Theriault came to life with five straight SLC points to give the team an 8-4 advantage. Hudson got going next, scoring six straight points to keep the Gryphons ahead by multiple possessions. Eng-Stewart joined in on the scoring before another three-pointer from Coughlin put the hosts up 22-9 as the quarter came to an end. The second quarter was dominated by SLC seniors, as Hudson, Coughlin and Kaila Dorch accounted for 17 of the team's 22 points. Emrie Pedraza joined in with a late-quarter triple that allowed the Gryphons to carry a 21-point advantage into halftime.

The Bears came out of the half firing, scoring five straight before an Eng-Stewart three-pointer stopped the run. After an SJBK triple in response, Dorch scored on back-to-back SLC possessions, returning the lead to 20 points. The Gryphons continued to answer each SJBK score, with a late jumper by Hudson capping the quarter and sending SLC into the final quarter with a 23-point advantage. The Bears closed the gap to 17 points early in the final period, but Theriault scored eight of her 18 points in the final frame to keep the Gryphons ahead, while Jersana Moore struck from the line and from deep to put the Gryphons up by 27 points with four minutes to play. A 10-2 run by the visitors closed the game, but it would not be enough to mount a comeback, as a pair of late Kendall Stephens free throws capped the victory, sending the Gryphons into the break as winners of five straight.
