Women's Basketball Travels to Take on Skyline-Leading Mariners

KING'S POINT, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team fell to the 21-1 USMMA Mariners on Tuesday, as the hosts moved to 18-0 in Skyline play. The Mariners' lone loss this season came at the hands of current top-ranked NYU in November.

Notable Performers
  • Gabby Hudson once again led the team in scoring, with a game-high 20 points
  • Ariana Spanopoulos grabbed a pair of steals in addition to four rebounds
  • Madeline Moor scored in her fourth straight appearance off the bench

How it Happened

The Gryphons started the game looking to establish their offense, and Hudson was at the center of their attack. She opened the scoring with a smooth jumper and remained aggressive, finishing with 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting. Her ability to convert at the free-throw line, where she went 7-for-8, allowed her to pace all scorers. Despite facing a tough defense, the Gryphons moved the ball well, with Audrey Mattison and Ariana Spanopoulos finding open teammates for scoring opportunities. Spanopoulos contributed on the defensive end as well with the aforementioned two steals, while Mattison knocked down a three-pointer in the first quarter. Kendall Stephens and Kaila Dorch battled hard on the boards, securing key rebounds to prevent second-chance opportunities for Merchant Marine.

Sarah Lawrence showed resilience throughout the game, especially in the second quarter when they went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Dorch and Stephens continued to play tough inside, while Hudson added another three-pointer to help keep the offense moving.
Defensively, the Gryphons were active, forcing seven steals in the game and limiting fast-break points from Merchant Marine. Dorch had a strong presence in the paint, grabbing three rebounds and contesting shots, while Grace Carter provided key minutes off the bench, adding a steal of her own.
