Dougherty Posts Career-Best Scoring Effort in Matchup with Rams

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team fell to the Rams of Farmingdale State 77-59 on Wednesday night, as a strong second half by the Rams allowed them to pull away with the Skyline victory. The Gryphons now sit at 9-2 in conference play and remain atop the Skyline's Gold Division.

Notable Performers
  • Chris Dougherty scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Gryphons, adding in seven rebounds and a block
  • Thomas Matonti went a perfect 3-for-3 from deep, scoring nine points and adding in an assist
  • John Kairouz scored an impactful five points while pulling down three rebounds and distributing a pair of assists

How it Happened

The Gryphons struck first, with Chris Dougherty finishing a second-chance layup to give Sarah Lawrence an early 2-0 lead. Dougherty continued to be a key contributor for the Gryphons, scoring 16 points on an efficient 7-for-11 shooting performance while also pulling down seven rebounds. The Gryphons kept pace with Farmingdale State throughout the first half, with Thomas Matonti coming off the bench to provide an instant spark, cutting the lead to three points with four minutes to play. Matonti ended thge day perfect from beyond the arc, hitting three three-pointers to add nine points for the Gryphons. Braden Burman reduced the lead to four with under two to play, but a Farmingdale score just under the one minute mark gave the visitors a six-point advantage heading into the intermission. In the second half, the Gryphons continued their strong shooting from deep, knocking down seven more three-pointers as a team. Burman, Kairouz and Noah Elovitz-Fields all connected from long range while Dougherty and Matonti each poured in a pair of shots from deep. Despite the strong shooting performance, a 10-0 run by the Rams midway through the half would swing the game in favor of the visitors and the Gryphons would be unable to bridge the gap.
