Women's Basketball Frequents the Free-Throw Line against Golden Eagles

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team travelled to St. Joseph's Long Island on Wednesday night, taking on the now 12-4 Golden Eagles. The Gryphons fell to the hosts while junior Gabby Hudson scored a game-high 20 points. The team will return to action at home on Saturday, Feburary 8th as they host Mount Saint Vincent to wrap up a Sarah Lawrence basketball doubleheader.

Notable Performers
  • Hudson earned her second double-double of the season, adding 10 rebounds to her 20 points
  • Audrey Mattison connected once from deep, scoring a total of eight points and swiping four steals
  • Madeline Moor scored once while pulling down four rebounds and earning a steal
How it Happened

The Gryphons took an early lead when Ariana Spanopoulos drained a three-pointer off an assist from Kendall Stephens, setting the tone for the offense. The Golden Eagles would respond, taking the next ten points to build up a comfortable lead. Throughout the first quarter, the Gryphons showcased a strong defensive presence, with steals from Hudson, Mattison and Carter helping end SJLI possessions prematurely. Two late free throws by Kaila Dorch reduced the lead, but the hosts remained ahead seven points. Hudson stepped up for SLC in the second quarter, taking a Spanopoulos pass and converting from distance, before a pair of late-quarter free throws that gave her five for the quarter.

In the second half, Sarah Lawrence showed their resilience with an improved offensive performance in the third quarter. A three-point play by Hudson and another pair of free throws from Dorch would cut into the lead, and despite late scores by Mattison, Moor and Hudson, the Golden Eagles entered the last ten minutes of play with a comfortable lead. The fourth quarter saw Mattison and Hudson combine for 13 points, with both connecting from deep and Hudson connecting on six points from the line. Despite the offensive surge and outscoring the hosts, the gap would be too large and the Golden Eagles earned their 12th Skyline win.
