Women's Basketball Rounds out Doubleheader against UMSV

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's basketball team rounded out the school's sixth annual Pride on the Court events with a 2:00 p.m. matchup against the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent. The Dolphins improved to 9-7 in conference play with a victory over the Gryphons, who will now head on the road for a pair of Sklyine contests.

Notable Performers
  • Gabby Hudson led the Gryphons with 14 points while swiping five steals
  • Kaila Dorch scored eight for SLC to go along with ten rebounds
  • Kendall Stephens scored eight points while blocking a pair of shots and pulling down three offensive boards

How it Happened

The Gryphons stayed close to the Dolphins early on, as Stephens grabbed one of her three offensive rebounds of the night and put it back in to give the team their first score. A pair of free throws by Dorch would follow and a made jumper by Madeline Moor would give the team a 6-4 lead over the visitors. Hudson would get her first score in the waning minutes of the period, scoring on a putback of her own to keep the Gryphons ahead. The Dolphins would not go down quietly, embarking on a 7-0 run to wrap up the period and carry a four-point lead into the second quarter. To open the second, Hudson connected from deep to bring the Gryphons back within one, but another 7-0 streak for the visitors would respond and but the Dolphins up by eight. Dorch, Stephens and Hudson would all score again in the quarter, but even a last-second layup by Stephens would not be enough to bridge the gap, with the visitors taking a comfortable lead into the halftime intermission.

Stephens got the Gryphons on the board with under six to play in the third and Hudson connected again from deep, but a relentless UMSV attack kept the Dolphins ahead. The fourth quarter was SLC's best offensive period of the night, with Hudson finding Dorch twice for scores and the junior guard stepping up to the line twice to score herself. Moor found the bottom of the net again in the final two minutes of play, scoring in transition after a steal and pass from Stephens. Perry Yun wrapped up the team's offensive effort with a pair of made free-throws in the final seconds to close out the game.
