Softball Opens Season with Doubleheader against Baruch

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of losses to Baruch College. The Gryphons will next embark on their spring break trip, heading to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet on March 8th before a matchup with Valley Forge on the 10th.

Notable Performers
  • Shirin Pechefsky tossed six innings for SLC across both games, striking out six and walking just two batters
  • Isabella Zuniga threw the other 2.2 innings for the Gryphons, forcing four flyouts in the second game of the day
  • Kate Hansberry got on base twice for SLC, breaking up Baruch's no-hit bid in game one while drawing a walk in the final game of the day

Game 1: Baruch def. Sarah Lawrence 8-0

The Bearcats scored in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch, but Pechefsky would keep the Baruch offense in check for most of the game, allowing just the one score through the first three frames, heading into the bottom of the fourth down 1-0. The Bearcats would get going offensively in the bottom of the fourth though, stringing together five straight hits to score another four runs and expand the lead to 5-0. Pechefsky forced a flyout to end the inning, stranding two runners and ending the bleeding while sending the Gryphons back to the plate. The first two Gryphons went down in order before Hansberry's single to center field ended Baruch's no-hit bid. The Bearcat's starter would respond, striking out the next SLC batter to end the inning, and the hosts would end the game early after scoring another three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Game 2: Baruch def. Sarah Lawrence 10-0

The Bearcats once again jumped ahead early, scoring three times in the bottom of the first to establish an early lead. A walk by Hansberry in the top of the second would give SLC their lone baserunner of the game, as Baruch's Leilani Jimenez retired 15 of the 16 batters she faced for a no-hit effort against the Gryphons. Zuniga forced four flyouts in 2.2 innings of work before Pechefsky wrapped up the game, walking one and forcing three groundouts in 1.1 innings.
