WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Sarah Lawrence softball team kicked off their 2025 spring break road trip with a doubleheader at Gallaudet University. The Gryphons fell in both ends of the doubleheader, but a four-run scoring outburst in the second game highlighted a five-hit effort for the Gryphons.
Notable Performers
- Shirin Pechefsky earned a hit in each game while stealing a base and tossing four innings for SLC, striking out three
- Isabella Zuniga pitched four innings in game two, allowing just one earned run while reaching base in both games as well
- Sophie Grenke's two-hit effort in game two led the Gryphons, driving in one of SLC's four runs
- Kyra Johnsen reached base three times for SLC, scoring three of the team's five runs on the day
- Isabella Boissonnault reached base four times on the day, drawing three walks in the second game and scoring for the Gryphons
How it Happened
The Gryphons got ahead early in both games, scoring in the top of the first to put the pressure on the hosting Bison. In the first game, sophomore
Kyra Johnsen would reach on a Gallaudet error before a Pechefsky single advanced her to third and a passed ball brought in the first run of the game for the Gryphons. In the second game, Johnsen would get on via a walk before a wild pitch and a groundout by Pechefsky moved the leadoff hitter to third with just one out. Boissonnault drew her first walk of the game before a throwing error brought Johnsen around again and gave SLC their second lead of the day. The Bison immediately responded in both games, scoring four in the bottom of the first in game one while having a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the frame in the second game. A single by Boissonault in the fourth would give SLC their lone baserunner for the remainder of the first game, but the catcher would be stranded on second and the Gryphons would go down in order. The second game would be a different story, with a 13-1 Gallaudet lead heading into the fifth but a response by the Gryphons in the final frame. It would once again by Johnsen to start things off for SLC, tripling to set the Gryphons up for success. Pechefsky singled up the middle to bring in the sophomore and after a pair of walks to load the bases, Grenke would strike to bring around Pechefsky and keep the bases loaded for SLC. Boissonnault would score on a Gallaudet error but the Bisons would turn two after a pitching change to stop the bleeding and end the game.
