Men's Tennis Takes Down Lehman for First Victory of 2025

BRONX, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's tennis team rallied for their first win of the season on Thursday, taking down Lehman College decisively. The Gryphons won all six singles matchups and took both first and second doubles as well.

How it Happened

In doubles play, Simon Kopecky and Jules Voorhoeve teamed up for a 6-3 victory in the first flight after both players earned singles victories last Saturday. In second doubles, Avery Romano and Dylan Bernard cleaned up with a 6-0 shutout of Lehman's pair, as both earned their first collegiate victories. Noah Morley and Max Gleason rounded out the doubles efforts for the Gryphons, falling 5-7 in a closely contested matchup at third doubles.

Kopecky improved to 2-1 on the season in singles play, winning in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-1 against Lehman's Richie Magaribi. Voorhoeve then took his turn, falling 7-4 in a first-set tiebreaker before taking the second set 6-2 and the following tiebreaker 11-9, moving to 2-1 in his first three collegiate matches. Romano coupled the earlier doubles win with a dominating 6-1, 6-2 win in the third singles flight for wins number one and two as a Gryphon. Bernard earned his own first singles victory in the fourth flight, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Lehman's Juan Rodriguez. Gavin Wright, who played SLC's closest match on Wednesday, earned his first career win as well, with a 7-5 first-set victory before a comfortable 6-1 win in the second. Senior Peter Fathi rounded out the singles winners for SLC, falling 5-7 before two comfortable 6-3, 6-1 victories for the Gryphons.
