Women's Volleyball Sweeps Maritime to Open Skyline Play with a Victory

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team defeated the Maritime Privateers in their 2025 Skyline opener on Tuesday night, sweeping the visitors in three sets.The Gryphons took the first by a score of 25-17 before a 25-19 win in the second and a 25-21 third-set win to complete the sweep. The team will return to action on Thursday, hosting the Dolphins of UMSV at 6:00 p.m.

Notable Performers How it Happened

In the opening set, the Gryphons shook off a slow start and surged ahead midway through with a series of kills from Kazos and Vataj. Brynn Beck added a service ace and Carolyn Kelly teamed with Kazos for a block as SLC went on a decisive run, taking the frame 25–17.

The second set saw the Gryphons dominate from start to finish. Costa set the offense in rhythm, connecting with Kazos, Vataj, and Olivia Richard for kills, while the team piled up aces from Costa, Vataj, and Eva Anderson to build a commanding lead. Despite a late push from Maritime, Sarah Lawrence closed out the set 25–19 to go up 2–0.

In the third, SLC weathered a strong service run from Maritime before regaining control through Beck, Richard, and Vataj at the net. Costa continued to spread the attack, and Anderson delivered another ace to spark a late rally. Kazos sealed the match with a kill off a set from Lila Nash, clinching a 25–21 win and the sweep.

The Gryphons (6-8, Skyline 1-0) will return to action on Thursday, October 2nd as they host the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline battle at 6:00 p.m. The Gryphons will look to stay undefeated in conference play as the Dolphins hope to open their Skyline slate with a win.
