BOSTON, MASS. -
The Sarah Lawrence women's volleyball team travelled to Emmanuel College on Friday night for the first of three matches in Massachusetts this weekend. The Gryphons fell in straight sets to the Saints and will now look ahead to tomorrow's tri-match featuring Wentworth Institute and Regis College.
Notable Performers
- Brynn Beck had an efficient seven kills to go along with a team-high five block assists
- Sophia Costa totaled 21 assists to go along with five digs and four block assists
- Athena Kazos led the team with eight kills and nine digs, flirting with a double-double in the loss
How it Happened
Sarah Lawrence opened the night with energy in the first set, pulling even at 7–7 on a block from
Brynn Beck and
Sophia Costa before Emmanuel pulled away late for a 25-16 win. The Gryphons fought harder in the second, using kills from
Eve Iceton,
Athena Kazos, and
Nikolet Vataj along with an ace from
Raegan Lacombe to stay close, narrowing the gap to 13-10 and later 21-15 before ultimately dropping the frame 25-15. In the third set, SLC surged ahead early behind Beck and
Olivia Richard, taking a 17-12 advantage after a series of kills and blocks. Emmanuel responded with a decisive run, however, closing out the match 25-15 after taking the day's final seven points.
Up Next
The Gryphons (1-2) will return to action Saturday for their final two matches of the road trip, taking on Wentworth at noon before the hosting Regis College Pride at 2:00 p.m. The team will then return to New York for a Thursday-night matchup with Bard at the Campbell Sports Center.
