How it Happened
The two teams stayed close early, with early scores from SLC's upperclassmen keeping the Gryphons ahead by a score until an 8-8 tie with three minutes left in the period. A Purchase make from the line gave the Panthers a 9-8 lead, but a second-chance score by
Jade Ling Eng-Stewart returned the lead to the hosts and kick-started a 7-0 run to end the period, capped by a Theriault triple to put the team up 15-9 after one. The second quarter started with a Purchase score, but a three-point play by Dorch started another seven-point swing for the Gryphons that gave SLC a double-digit advantage. After going back-and-forth throughout the middle of the quarter, the Gryphons once again ended the frame on a high note, taking 15 of the final 16 points of the frame, punctuated by an
Audrey Mattison putback, and holding a 24-point advantage at the intermission.
The Gryphons came out firing in the third, as Hudson got the scoring started before both Eng-Stewart and Theriault turned steals into points for themselves and extended the lead to 30 points. A 12-point swing in the middle of the third quarter extended the lead to 40 before a few Purchase scores brought the lead down to 34 heading into the final frame. The final period saw the Gryphons maintain their lead, with eight points from Theriault leading the charge offensively as the team held on for a dominant conference victory.
