Men's Basketball Pours in 91 Points in Win over Hosting Bears

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Sarah Lawrence men's basketball team connected on 11 triples while going 20-23 from the stripe in a 91-75 road victory over St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The Gryphons got contributions from 13 different players in the victory, including a pair of double-doubles from upperclassmen.

Notable Performers
  • Eamon Kelly scored a team-high 17 points, knocking down five of eight shots from deep
  • Andrew Kim scored 11 points while distributing 10 assists for a double-double
  • Chris Dougherty pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while scoring 13 points and blocking two shots
How it Happened

Gabe Downes made the most of his second career start, kicking the game off with a three-pointer off an Andrew Kim pass. The junior then found Kelly for another deep conversion before the senior scored from inside the arc to put SLC up 8-0. A Kim free throw extended the lead to 9-0, but back-to-back triples by the Bears reduced the lead to just one possession. Thomas Matonti got on the board before scores from Kim and John Kairouz kept SLC ahead. Kim then found Matonti for a triple, giving the junior from Missouri three assists in the first eight minutes. Downes returned to the scoring column with a three-point play, putting the Gryphons ahead 22-10 with just over 11 minutes remaining. The next ten points would go to the hosts, as the Gryphons held a slight two-point advantage with eight minutes to play. Matonti and Dougherty shared an 8-0 run for SLC, extending the lead to eight points with under six to play and stopping SJBK's momentum. Another 10-0 run by the Bears gave the hosts their first lead of the day, going ahead 32-30 with 1:47 to play and looking to take a lead into the intermission. Kim ended the half with three more assists, finding Kairouz and Kelly for triples before assisting on a last-second basket by Kairouz that put SLC up by four after 20 minutes of play.

An SJBK triple to start the second half reduced the lead to a single point, but an immediate 7-0 run in response by the Gryphons kept the visitors ahead by multiple possessions. The Bears would continue to make shots, but the Gryphons had answers at every turn, building up a double-digit lead and maintaining it through the end of the game. The team sealed the victory with strong free throw shooting late, as Noah Elovitz-Fields, Mason Meyers and Elias Flaim converted from the line while Brady Lason and Gavin Wright scored from the field.
